People seek counselling for many reasons such as stress, anxiety, low mood, relationship difficulties, life transitions, grief, trauma, or simply a desire to understand themselves better. You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit from counselling. If something in your life feels heavy, confusing, or stuck, counselling can help.
You may have found that you have been able to discuss your concerns with friends or family in the past and often, those closest to us will mean well by offering their opinions, thoughts or even tell us what to do (or what they would do) in a difficult situation but this can sometimes leave us feeling more confused, conflicted or unsure of what your next steps should be. This could bring up feelings such as guilt, self-doubt and low self-esteem whilst feeling unheard or possibly a burden on your loved ones.
Or it may be that you feel you have nobody close to you that you feel comfortable to discuss and share your feelings with and are looking for someone impartial to work through your difficulties.
When was the last time you can remember having the time to fully focus solely on you, when you felt heard and accepted just the way you are now?
Counselling offers exactly this – it is a place and time for you to fully connect to how you are truly feeling without the worry of being judged, told what to do or have expectations set upon you.
Counselling is a supportive, confidential space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences without this fear. It’s a place to slow down, gain clarity, and work toward meaningful change at a pace that feels right for you.
My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and tailored to your individual needs. I believe you are the expert on your own life, and my role is to listen, offer techniques to enable you and support you to navigate towards greater wellbeing.
The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. We’ll talk about what’s brought you to counselling, what you’re hoping to achieve, and any concerns you may have. You’re welcome to share as much or as little as you feel comfortable to — there is no pressure to disclose everything right away.
I’ll also explain how counselling works, discuss confidentiality, boundaries, our contractual agreement and answer any questions you have. The goal is for you to leave feeling safe, heard, and informed.
In ongoing sessions, we’ll work together to explore your experiences, identify patterns, and develop insight and practical strategies that support your goals. Sessions are guided by what feels most important to you in that moment — whether that’s processing emotions, learning coping skills, or working through specific challenges.
Counselling is not about being told what to do. It’s a shared process that respects your values, choices, and pace. Some sessions may feel reflective and calming, while others may be challenging or emotional — all of this is a normal and valuable part of your counselling journey.
Counselling sessions are confidential and non-judgmental. This is your space to speak openly and honestly, knowing you will be met with respect, empathy, and care.
Counselling looks different for everyone. Some people attend for a short period to work through a specific issue, while others choose longer-term support for deeper personal growth. Whatever your journey looks like, we will regularly check in to ensure counselling continues to meet your needs. I will usually review your sessions with you every 6 weeks, but this can be entirely flexible, and I welcome you to raise and share any concerns, progression you have made or thoughts on the future of your sessions at any time.
You don’t have to navigate life’s challenges alone. Counselling can be a powerful step toward understanding yourself, building resilience, and creating positive change for a brighter, lighter and healthier future.
